Target Stores Using Non-Union
Published on Saturday, January 26, 2019
We, the Officers of Sprinkler Fitters LU 281 UA, would like to inform all Members and their Families of a current unfortunate situation involving LU 281 and Target. The Target corporation has decided to utilize an out of state - non union company and employees to replace the Dry System piping in at least two and possibly as many as seven of the parking garages of their stores in our territory. Currently the two stores where this work is underway are located at Peterson avenue just east of Western avenue ( 2200 W. Peterson) in Chicago and 95th Street just west of Pulaski (4200 w. 95th Street) in Oak Lawn. Both parking garage Dry Systems are completely out of service due to the removal of main piping just after the Valve Room. As we all know , the safety of the customers and Target employees has been compromised due to the decision to remove this piping. Considerable effort has already been made recently by your Officers and especially the Out of Work LU 281 Members to make City of Chicago, Oak Lawn and Target officials aware of the dangerous situation that exists at these two Target stores. To date, the Target stores , as well as the parking garages remain open in spite of our efforts to inform the Officials and the general public of this dangerous situation. Please consider this information before shopping at ANY Target store and please inform your family, friends and neighbors as well. We would like to express our gratitude to the Members who have been manning the line despite the frigid weather in an effort to turn this around. Please continue to monitor our website for updates regarding this situation.
