COVID-19 CONCERNS UPDATE
Published on Tuesday, March 17, 2020
The Union Office building will be closed to anyone other than direct office personnel. At the time of this letter, the Union Office Staff and Health & Welfare Fund Office Staff are reporting for work as usual. We are working on a contingency plan for the Office Staff to be equipped to work if/when that becomes necessary. Our officers and staff are focused on making sure that important business of Local 281 continues to be performed. We are committed to providing services to our members and their families.
I have received correspondence from United Association General President Mark McManus. He has advised all Local Unions to follow the recommendations of the experts at the CDC, including the recommendation to avoid gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks. For that reason, General President McManus urged all U.A. Local Unions to cancel all union meetings, conferences and conventions, and apprenticeship schools in the months of March, April, and May. In following the U.A.’s recommendation, the regular monthly meetings of Local 281, U.A. scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2020 and Thursday, May 7, 2020 have been cancelled. We will make a decision regarding future meetings at a later date. Due to these cancellations, the next regular monthly meeting of Local 281, U.A. will be a notified meeting.
We will continue to actively monitor the COVID-19 outbreak situation and keep you up to date with any new information. Because the information regarding the outbreak is rapidly changing, our primary form of communication with the membership will be through the Local 281 website. Please check this website often for updates and important communication.
