Additional Life Insurance Benefit
Published on Monday, May 10, 2021
Brothers and Sisters,
We know how hard it is for you to get affordable life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage. Because of our line of work, insurance companies often charge us outrageous rates, if they are willing to cover us at all.
That is why when we started the Midwest Coalition of Labor (MCL), we purchased free life insurance and free AD&D coverage for every single active member in our union. We also made sure this agreement included open enrollment periods where members could sign up for additional insurance coverage with no medical questions or exams. So, no matter what pre-existing conditions you have, or how serious they are, you can protect your family without having to answer a single question about your medical history.
We also negotiated ultra-low group rates using our strength as a coalition with over 150,000 members. This means that you can buy coverage at prices you would never be able to get on your own. For example, a 40-year-old member can buy $200,000 of additional life insurance for $42 a month. That member can also buy $200,000 of additional AD&D coverage for only $10 per month. And this isn’t just for members - you can also purchase up to $30,000 in coverage for your spouse and up to $15,000 for your children.
Additionally, we now offer Accident and Critical Illness Insurance which are both brand new this year! These include a wellness program that literally pays you and your family to get regular health and dental screenings.
Since MCL coverage took effect in January 2019, members purchased over $3 Billion in coverage and the plan has paid out millions to our families.
